Rupee plunges to Rs 43.47 to US $

The rupee opened today at Rs 43.43 against the dollar and was quoting more or less the same before closing at Rs 43.45 against the US dollar.

Dealers said the spot rupee was weak and was traded low at Rs 43.45.

The supplies from exporters were almost nil because of the persistent fall in the rupee.

A few media reports said the US dollar soared further sharply against the rupee to Rs 43.4650/4750 per dollar but the pound sterling ended mildly cheaper at Rs 70.18/21 per pound at the close of the interbank foreign exchange market today.
