Vajpayee may outline next tranche of reforms at India Economic SummitPrime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is expected to further adumbrate the "second generation reforms" on the opening day of the three-day India Economic Summit beginning in New Delhi on December 5. The Confederation of Indian Industry and the Davos-based World Economic Forum are the joint organisers. ''Foreign and Indian businesses are hungry to know more about reforms. The new government must create landmarks in the coming 12 months,'' WEF director Collette Mathur said. Mathur said the real window of opportunity is opening up and the chance should not be missed as investors are already diversifying their investments. The summit will have numerous interactive sessions where the Indian entrepreneur can interact with global counterparts. A special session on the World Trade Organisation will also be squeezed in once Indian delegates reach Delhi after the Seattle meeting. Thirty countries will participate and discuss the theme ''India in the 21st Century: A Global Player.'' The summit would be co-chaired by Rahul Bajaj, chairman and managing director, Bajaj Auto, Ronnie C Chan, chairman, Hang Lung Development Company, Hong Kong, Kenneth L Lay, chairman and CEO, Enron, USA and Jean Francois-Poncet, chairman, economic and social committee, the Senata, France. India's Prime Minister A B Vajapyee will address the special opening plenary session on Sunday and share his vision for India in the 21st century. Democrat senator from Massachusets John F Kerry and India's Small, Agro and Rural Industries Minister Vasundhara Raje will set the pace for the discussions. UNI
