Gold steady; silver declines as demand dips

Silver prices declined marginally while gold remained steady at the Bombay bullion market today.

Silver 0. 999 and raw silver dropped by Rs 70 and Rs 55 to Rs 8,130 and Rs 7,980 per kilogram respectively due to poor demand from local operators at the previous higher level coupled with better arrivals.

Weak overseas advice also helped the downtrend.

Gold standard mint and 22-carat remained unchanged at Rs 4,150 and Rs 3840 for ten gm respectively in the absence of adequate demand from local operators.

However, ten-tola gold biscuit drifted lower by Rs 100 to Rs 48,600 on slack buying interst from investors and jewellery industry.

Following are the closing rates (including all taxes):

  • Ready silver (per kg) 0.999 Rs 8,130 (Rs 8,200).
  • Raw silver (per kg) Rs 7980 (Rs 8,035).
  • Gold (per ten grams) standard mint Rs 4,150 (Rs 4,150).
  • 22-carat Rs 3,840 (Rs 3,840).
  • Gold bar (ten tola) Rs 48,600 (Rs 48,700).
