Equities, Nifty decline a tad; 1187.70

Equities declined moderately at the National Stock Exchange on specualtive selling pressure on the first day of current settlement today.

Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 1191.45 points, touched the day's high of 1193.90 points, a low of 1179.65 points before closing at 1187.70 points, showing a net loss of 3.60 points or 0.30 per cent from the previous close of 1191.30 points.

The CNX Nifty Junior Index however gained further by 0.90 points to 1955.60 points from the previous close of 1954.70 points. The S&P CNX Defty Index dropped by 2.90 points to 949.05 points as against the previous close of 951.95 points.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 15.02 billion, which came from a trading of 73.07 million shares in 226,681 trades. Debentures traded were valued at 5.67 million.

Today, 575 securities advanced, 388 declined, 74 remained unchanged while 60 securities hit their price bands.
