April 08, 2003 14:47 IST
India imported 3.928 million tonnes of crude oil from Iraq during the first 11 months of 2002-03, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
Imports from Iraq constituted only 5 per cent of the total estimated imports of over 78.5 million tonnes, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Santosh Kumar Gangwar said in a written reply to the Upper House of Parliament.
During April-February 2002-03, 75.736 million tonnes of crude oil was imported, out of which 50.775 million tonnes (67 per cent) came from the Gulf region, he said.
"There has been no disruption in supplies of imported crude oil so far on account of the on-going US-Iraq war. The Government has prepared a contingency plan to ensure security of supplies during the war," he added.
