Emerson to make India manufacturing hub

Emerson Network Power India, a power solutions company, has launched a new marketing plan for its products in the south Asian markets of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
The company will use its Indian operations as a manufacturing hub for marketing its products in the south Asian region. It has already appointed distributors in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
"We are marketing our products in these countries using India as a manufacturing base as the requirements are similar to those of India. Currently, these countries contribute very little to our turnover. We expect this to increase to about 10 per cent during 2003-04," S S Bapat, country champion (uptime solution), Emerson Network Power India, said.
In September 2001, Emerson announced the acquisition of Tata group's interest in Tata Liebert Ltd, a joint venture between Tatas and Liebert Corporation, whose parent company is Emerson.
The new business, now known as Emerson Network Power India Private Ltd, has combined other key Emerson operations in India to function as a division within the Emerson Network Power group.
In particular, Emerson is focusing on the growing Sri Lankan market (the Sri Lankan network uptime solutions market is valued at $5.15 million). Sri Lanka is slated to account for 30 per cent of company's total exports.
The company plans to scale up the opportunities and capabilities of its local distributors to manage sales and service for the region.
Some of the major customers with whom Emerson is already working with in Sri Lanka are Suntel, Lankabell, Ceylon Tobacco Company, Lanka Internet Services, Lanka Electricity Company, the ministries of education and science & technology.
Further, the Indian operations of the Emerson group are also increasingly emerging as an R7 base for the global facilities.
