India's biggest carmaker Maruti Udyog Ltd on Thursday announced an across-the-board price hike, though marginally by 0.38 per cent.
Price of MUL's bread-and-butter model Maruti800 would go up by Rs 792 at Rs 205,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), a company statement said.
The LX model of compact car Alto will now cost Rs 1,026 more at Rs 266,000.
The price of another premium small car model WagonR LX has gone up from Rs 326,000 to Rs 328,000 lakh, the release said.
The price of premium mid-size car Baleno LXi will be costlier by Rs 2,153, from Rs 560,000 to Rs 562,000.
The hike in prices follows the announcement of two per cent cess on education in the Budget.
Soon after the Budget, carmakers initiated reviewing the implications of tax proposals.
While MUL announced a price hike, India's second-biggest carmaker Hyundai Motor India Ltd said it would take a call by the month-end.
"We will review the impact of two per cent cess on education by July-end. We believe that rupee is going to strengthen after the announcements made in the Budget," HMIL president B V R Subbu told PTI.
