Nifty gains by less than 1 pointPivotals gained marginally on the National Stock Exchange at the inaugural day of the current settlement today. Reflecting the trend, the NSE-50 index opened at 1030.20, touched the day's high of 1037.40, declined to the day's low of 1022.05, and later ended at 1030.70 points, showing a net gain of 0.90 point over the previous close of 1029.80. Similarly, the Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) Index increased by 0.85 points to 909.05 points over the previous close of 908.20 points, while the Midcap Index moved up by 9.80 points to 1167.90 points as against the previous close of 1158.10 points. The total turnover reported during the day was Rs 19.2 billion. ITC topped the list by registering highest business volume at Rs 13.3 billion followed by Reliance Rs 1.2 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1 billion, SBI Rs 772.9 million and ACC Rs 582.9 million. Hectic activity was witnessed at the other counters like Castrol Rs 402.7 million, MTNL Rs 259.1 million, TELCO Rs 240.5 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 149.9 million, Ranbaxy Rs 124.7 million, Infosys Tech Rs 90.8 million, L&T Rs 82.2 million, Hind Lever Rs 79.6 million, BHEL Rs 72.6 million, Colgate Rs 61.7 million, Sterlite Rs 60.6 million, Satyam Comp Rs 60.1 million, Pentsware Rs 41.5 million, ICICI Rs 31.6 million, P&G Rs 29.4 million, LML Rs 29.2 million, Siemens Rs 23.3 million, Wockhardt Rs 23.3 million and Ponds Rs 21.7 million. Among the major gainers, ITC shot up 5.38 per cent to Rs 628.15, MRPL up by 4.08 per cent to Rs 19.15, TVS Suzuki up by Rs 2.02 per cent to Rs 15.85 and Rel Capital hardened by 1.49 per cent to Rs 54.40. Among the losers, Ashok Leyland drifted lower by 3.34 per cent to Rs 39.05, Ponds fell by 2.83 per cent to TSS 942.70, ABB down by Rs 2.44 per cent to Rs 495.00, ICICI declined by 2.28 per cent to Rs 73 and SBI lost by 2.08 per cent to Rs 221.70.
