Nifty rises by 7.3 pointsPivotal prices recovered marginally on buying support from financial institutions and general investors on the National Stock Exchange in Bombay today. The NSE-50 index opened at 1054.15 points, touched day's high of 1066 points, low of 1054.15 points, before closing at 1061.45 points, showing a net gain of 7.30 points as against the previous close of 1054.15 points. The Dollar NSE-50 index finished at 939.15 points, gaining 6.55 points over the last working day's close of 932.60 points. The Midcap index settled at 1169.35 points, an increase of 6.95 points as compared to the previous close of 1162.40 points. The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 1325.42 million involving over 50 million shares. The top gainers were IFCI Limited by Rs 1.55 to Rs 32.85, Oriental Bank by Rs 2.7 to Rs 62.65, Tata Tea by Rs 1.65 to Rs 422.45, L&T by Rs 8.2 to Rs 205.15 and IndoGulf by Rs 1.35 to Rs 37.49. The losers were East India Hotels by Rs 15.3 to Rs 415, Andhra Valley by Rs 1.5 to Rs 78.55, Grasim by Rs 6.2 to Rs 349.45, MRPL by Re 0.3 to Rs 19.95 and MTNL by Rs 2.45 to Rs 263.15. Tobacco giant ITC registered the highest turnover of Rs 4.9 billion followed by Tata Tea Rs 2.1 billion, SBI-N Rs 1.6 billion, RIL Rs 1.1 billion, Castrol Rs 478.9 million, L&T Rs 337.4 million, ACC Rs 313.1 million, Hind Lever Rs 215.5 million, MTNL Rs 204.9 million, TELCO Rs 180.9 million, Glaxo Rs 161.1 million, TISCO Rs 125.2 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 105.6, LML Rs 99.6 million, ITC Hotels Rs 97.3 million, Corp Bank Rs 90.4 million, Colgate Rs 82.4 million, BHEL Rs 75.7 million, Infosys Tech Rs 62.1 million, IPCL Rs 55.6 million, BPL Rs 53.8 million, ICICI Rs 49.7 million, Bata Rs 49.6 million, Burr Welcom Rs 46.8 million and BSES Rs 41.5 million.
