Sonia to campaign in PanajiSonia Gandhi will address a Congress rally at Panaji on January 17, Goa Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane said Tuesday. "There will be only one meeting in Goa," Rane said, "We will make a determined bid to win both the Lok Sabha seats in the state." He said that while former chief minister Ravi Naik has been proposed for the north Goa seat, former minister Francisco Sardinha is the tentative candidate for the south Goa seat. Meanwhile, Churchill Alemao has announced his candidature for the south Goa seat. Alemao, who founded the United Goans Democratic Party, had defeated Congressman Eduardo Faleiro in the last election. Union Law Minister Ramakant Khalap, who belongs to the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, will recontest from north Goa. The UGDP's candidate for the seat is Babuso Goankar, a former Congress MLA. The Bharatiya Janata has announced former minister Pandurang Raut for north Goa, and Ramakant Angley, a co-operative banker and businessman, for the south Goa constituency. UNI |
