Constituency-wise poll schedule announced
The Election Commission today released the constituency-wise poll schedule for the ensuing election to the Lok Sabha, five state assemblies and by-elections for 21 assembly constituencies spread over 11 states.
According to the announcement, the exercise has been categorised into seven separate schedules to cover all the 543 Lok Sabha and 351 assembly constituencies spread across the length and breadth of the country.
On January 1, the Commission announced that polling will be held on February 16, 22, 28 and March 7.
All the Lok Sabha constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,
Haryana, Manipur, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura,
Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli,
Lakshwadweep and the national capital territory of Delhi will vote on
February 16.
Mizoram, Nagaland and Pondicherry will vote on February 22.
All the Lok Sabha constituencies of Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh,
Kerala and Daman and Diu will vote on February 28.
In all, nine states will have a two-phase schedule, while Jammu
and Kashmir will be the lone state which will vote in three phases.
Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh
will be covered in two phases on February 16 and February 22.
Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa and West Bengal will also vote
in two phases on February 22 and February 28.
In Jammu and Kashmir, polling for the Jammu Lok Sabha seat would be held on February 16, Srinagar and Ladakh will go to polls on
February 28 and the remaining three seats of Baramulla, Anantnag and
Udhampur will vote on March 7.
Except Jammu and Kashmir, the general pattern is that a state
having 26 or less Lok Sabha constituencies will have a single-day
polling, while states with more than 26 seats will go in for a two-phase poll.
Of the 42 constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, Kakinada,
Rajahmundry, Amalapuram, Narasapur, Eluru, Machilipatnam,
Vijayawada, Tenali, Guntur, Baptala, Narasaraopet, Ongole, Nellore,
Tirupati, Chittoor, Rajampet, Cuddapah, Hindupur, Anantpur,
Kurnool and Nandyal will vote on February 16, while the remaining
21 Lok Sabha constituencies will go to polls on February 22.
While 34 of the 54 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar will vote on February 16, the remaining will complete the polling process on February 22.
The 20 Bihar constituencies where polling will be held on
February 22 are Bagha, Bettiah, Motihari, Gopalganj, Siwan,
Maharajganj, Chhapra, Hajipur, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi,
Sheohar, Madhubani, Jhanjharpur, Darbhanga, Rosera, Samastipur,
Barh, Balia, and Saharsa.
Of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies of Karnataka, Bidar, Gulbarga,
Raichur, Koppal, Bellary, Devangare, Chitradurga, Tumkur,
Chikballapur and Kolar will go to polls on February 22. The remaining 18 constituencies will vote in the first phase on
February 16.
Of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh, Sarangarh, Raipur,
Mahasamund, Kanker, Bastar, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Balaghat, Mandla,
Jabalpur, Seoni, Chhindwara, Betul, Hoshangabad, Bhopal, Vidisha,
Khandwa, Khargone, Dhar and Indore will go to polls on February 22,
while polling in the remaining 20 constituencies will be held on
February 28.
Of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra, 24 will vote
on February 22. These are Dhule, Nandurbar, randol, Jalgaon,
Buldhana, Akola, Washim, Amravati, Ramtek, Nagpur, Bhandara, Chimur, Chandrapur, Wardha, Yavatmal, Hingoli, Nanded, Prabhani, Beed, Latur, Osmanabad, Solapur, Pandharpur and Sangli. The remaining 24 constituencies in the state will vote on February 28.
Of the 21 constituencies in Orissa, Koraput, Nowrangpur,
Kalahandi, Phulbani, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Dhenkanal,
Sundergarh and Keonjhar will vote on February 22, while the
remaining 11 seats in the state will go to polls on February 28.
Of the 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, polling in Madras north,
Madras central, Madras south, Sriperumbudur, Chengalpattu,
Arakkonam, Vellore, Tirupattur, Vandavasi, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri,
Salem, Tiruchengode and Gobichettipalayam will be held on February
16 while the remaining 25 constituencies will vote on February 22.
Of the 85 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh polling in Tehri Garhwal, Garhwal, Almora, Nainital, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, Badaun, Aonla, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Kheri, Shahabad, Sitapur, Misrikh, Hardoi, Lucknow, Kaiserganj, Bahraich, Balrampur, Gonda, Basti, Domariaganj, Khalilabad, Bansgaon, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Padrauna, Deoria and
Salempur will be held on February 22, while the remaining 52
constituencies will go polls on February
16.
Twenty of the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal go to
polls on February 22. These are Cooch Behar, Alipurduars,
Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Raiganj, Balurghat, Malda, Jangipur,
Murshidabad, Berhampore, Krishnagar, Nabadwip, Barasat, Bankura,
Durgapur, Asansol, Burdwan, Katwa, Bolpur and Birbhum. The remaining 22 constituencies will go to polls on February 28.
