Naidu justifies his stand
Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has justified the party's decision to bail out the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, saying that he did not want the Congress to get strengthened by defeat of the motion.
Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Naidu said, ''If the Congress became stronger at the Centre, it would have a direct impact on state politics. For, the Congress is a major Opposition in the state.''
Naidu maintained that he was secular and would oppose the
BJP if it became anti-TDP. But he would support any good decision taken by the Vajpayee government. However, there was no question of the TDP joining the BJP government, he added.
Meanwhile, Communist Party of India-Marxist state secretary B V Raghavulu told the media in Kurnool that there would be no further political understanding with the TDP as it supported the BJP.
He alleged that the BJP had made rapid strides in the state mainly because of the anti-people policies of the Chandrababu Naidu government.
