E-Mail this report to a friend

The Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party unit has started bracing itself for the probable expulsion of suspended leader Kalyan Singh from the party.

At a meeting of the state unit office bearers held in Lucknow today, these preparations were given final shape. State party president Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting which was attended by Chief Minister Ram Prakash Gupta, party general secretary and in-charge of UP affairs K Govindacharya and many state level leaders.

The meeting decided to start a dialogue with the lower rung workers of the party, according them due importance, besides taking effective steps for the redressal of their grievances and holding workers' convention at five places in the state in January next.

State party general secretary Ramapati Ram Tripathi later told newspersons that the workers convention would be held at Meerut on January 16, Lucknow on January 23, Dehradun on January 27, Agra on January 29 and Varanasi on January 30. Workers at the panchayat level will participate in the conventions, he said.

Tripathi said the chief minister, Rajnath Singh, office bearers of the central unit of the party and Union ministers would attend all the workers conventions.

He said that to ensure the participation of the workers at the conventions, all the district units had been directed to hold the meetings of the district working committees between December 15 to 22. The state executive would meet in Lucknow on January 8 and 9 to review the political situation and make the preparations.

Tripathi warned that indiscipline would not be tolerated in the party and action would be taken against anyone who indulged in it.

He said instead of issuing a show cause notice and taking action after receiving the reply, the disciplinary committees would directly interrogate the person concerned and take action.

He said four such three-member committees had been constituted which would tour the districts to listen to grievances. They would then ask the guilty for their version and recommend action to the state disciplinary committee.
