RSS programme to reconvert Christians flops

Despite the poor response to its much-hyped 'homecoming' programme at Dindori (Madhya Pradesh) on Sunday, the Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (All-India Tribal Welfare Commune) has announced that it will continue the drive to bring converted Christians back into the Hindu fold.

Sources in Jabalpur said only 75 persons, mostly poor and illiterate women and children from the newly formed Dindori district, agreed to return to Hinduism.

At a function organised at the Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Dindori, 150km from Jabalpur, Bharatiya Janata Party politician Dilip Singh Judeo, a member of the Rajya Sabha, led the ceremony to 're-convert' tribal Christians by washing the feet of those who returned to the Hindu fold.

A press release of the ABVKA, a front of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, said the programme was a "partial success" as Christian families from 192 villages attended it. The organisation claimed all of those families were Christian.

ABVKA co-ordinator Mahanti, who returned to Jabalpur after attending the ceremony, said Judeo has set a target of bringing 100,000 converted Christians back to the Hindu fold.
