Six Tripura militants killed encounter

At least six National Liberation Front of Tripura ultras were killed in an encounter with the Assam Rifles jawans at Khedachara in north Tripura today.

Police said acting on a tip-off, Assam Rifles personnel launched a combing operation late last night and cordoned off a rebel hideout at the area under Bhangmun police station. The police opened fire on the ultras, who also retaliated and in the ensuing ten-hour-long gun-battle, six extremists were killed on the spot.

A massive search was on to recover arms and ammunition from the area.
