ASSEMBLY POLL '98
|
AIADMK claims Thamaraikani was assaultedThe All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Tuesday demanded action against three Tamil Nadu ministers and DMK legislators for allegedly assaulting its floor leader R Thamaraikkani in the assembly on Monday. It threatened to launch an agitation if Speaker P T R Palanivel Rajan failed to proceed against them. In a joint statement in Madras, party deputy secretaries K A Sengottaiyan, M Chinnasamy and V Karuppasamy Pandyan and propaganda secretary E Madhusoodanan alleged that even Opposition members in the assembly had no protection, leave alone the public under the DMK rule. The AIADMK leaders claimed that Ministers Verapandi S Arumugam, Duraimurugan and K Ponmudi, as also certain DMK members, assaulted Thamaraikkani. The statement said two ministers in the previous DMK government, who had assaulted AIADMK leader J Jayalalitha, the then party floor leader, were continuing as ministers even now. It criticised Leader of the Opposition S Balakrishnan for condemning the assault on the minister by Thamaraikkani, and condoned the alleged attack on its member. UNI
