Militants kill 7 Tripura cops

Militants hurled grenades at two police vehicles killing seven policemen and injuring four others at Banduar in south Tripura today.

The police said militants threw grenades on two vehicles of the Tripura police patrolling the area, killing seven policemen on the spot. Four others, who sustained injuries, were admitted to the G B hospital.

Senior police officials along with additional security forces had rushed to the spot and launched a massive combing operation to nab the militants.

Inspector General of Police (law and order) K Salim Ali told UNI that the victims belonged to the road opening patrolling party of the District Armed Rifles.

The incident took place at about 0700 hours today. The guerrillas threw powerful grenades from a hilltop, badly damaging the two vehicles.
