Ram temple on BJP's agenda,
not NDA's: PM

By Our Correspondent in New Delhi

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday clarified his stance on the Ram temple issue stating that the construction of the temple was not on the agenda of the National Democratic Alliance government.

He said this to agitated Telugu Desam Party and Trinamul Congress leaders who met him on Thursday afternoon to discuss his controversial statement on the issue, which he had made on Wednesday.

"The Ram temple is on the agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party and not that of the NDA," the prime minister told the allies.

Earlier in the day, Parliament had been adjourned on Thursday morning when opposition members disrupted proceedings protesting against Vajpayee's statement on the Ram mandir.
