New Meghalaya CM wins trust vote

Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Flinder Anderson Khonglam on Monday won the trust vote in the state assembly by voice vote.

Dr Khonglam was directed by acting Governor Arvind Dave on December 8 to seek the confidence of the 60-member House, after the swearing-in of the Peoples Forum of Meghalaya government.

A no-confidence motion moved against Speaker E D Marak by the opposition United Democratic Party was also defeated by voice vote.

The motion was moved by UDP deputy leader Dr Donkuper Roy.

The strength of the Opposition in the House is UDP - 13, BJP - 3 and Garo National Council - one.

The PFM has 43 legislators, including the Speaker.
