It has now emerged that the militants, who attacked Parliament House on Thursday morning, arrived in a white ambassador, which had a red light on top.
The car appeared like it was the official vehicle of some VIP and it even had a Parliament sticker, which helped the militants to avoid being stopped at any point of entry.
However, the ownership of the vehicle is yet to be determined.
Rajya Sabha member and a noted lawyer R K Anand had a miraculous escape when an explosion took place near the vehicle in which he arrived in Parliament on Thursday morning.
"When I got down at gate no 12 at around 1130 hours (IST), there was an explosion right in front of my car," R K Anand told rediff.com.
"Within minutes a security guard screamed and told me to turn my vehicle and get out of the place. As I was being driven out of the gate, there was an exchange of fire between security officials and terrorists," he said.
Senior army officials rushed to the spot with army commandos and took charge of the situation.
However, by that time, the five terrorists had been gunned down by the National Security Guard commandos posted inside the Parliament House premises.
Six security personnel and five terrorists died in the attack.
Thirty injured persons were rushed to hospitals. Almost all the major hospitals in Delhi have rushed their ambulances with teams of doctors and first aid to the spot.
The entire media has descended on the area. However, all the gates are locked and mediapersons are also not allowed anywhere near Parliament House.
Intelligence Bureau chief K P Singh was also present on the spot to assess the situation.
Though it seems that the situation is now under control, the police is not taking any chances and is continuing to comb every inch of the area.
Senior Delhi Police officials led by Police Commissioner Ajay Raj Sharma had rushed to the spot to personally supervise the combing operations.
Sharma later rushed to Union Home Minister L K Advani to report the latest developments.
Renuka Chaudhary, Congress MP said, "This attack constitutes an attack on the sovereignty of India and India as a nation is determined to fight such terrorist acts."
Chaudhary also informed that about 100 members of Parliament were inside when the attack took place.
