US asks Pak to rein
in terrorist groups

The United States on Tuesday asked Pakistan to rein in terrorist groups responsible for carrying out violent activities in Kashmir and other parts of India.

"We made clear that we believe that all countries are responsible for addressing terrorist activities within their borders and we'll continue our discussions with Pakistan in that context," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said.

India has blamed Pakistan for last Thursday's attack on Parliament and warned of retaliatory strikes. Pakistan, however, has denied its direct or indirect involvement in the attack.

Of particular concern to the United States are the Pakistan-based Lashkar-i-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad organisations, both of which, Boucher said, have participated in terrorist activities.
