Swami denies move to replace Delhi police chief

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Union Minister of State for Home I D Swami on Thursday denied any move to transfer Delhi Police Commissioner Ajay Raj Sharma.

There were reports in a section of the press that Sharma would be transferred for the security lapse that led to the December 13 attack on Parliament.

"I do not know why someone should talk about replacing the Delhi police commissioner," Swami told rediff.com on Thursday.

"The Delhi police was praised by both Houses [of Parliament] and rich tributes were paid to the policemen who laid down their lives to prevent the terrorists from entering Parliament," he said.

Swami lashed out at Pakistan for insisting on a joint probe into the December 13 terrorist strike.

He asked Pakistan to hand over wanted terrorists like Maulana Masood Azhar, Dawood Ibrahim and the chief of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba to India so that they could be brought to justice.
