India recalls high commissioner to Pakistan

"Since the December 13 attack on Parliament we have seen that no attempt on the part of Pakistan has been made to take action against organisations involved in the terrorist attack," an external affairs ministry spokesperson said announcing the decision.

The decision comes amidst growing tension between the two countries after last week's terror attack on Parliament which India says has been carried out by Pakistan-based outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad in tandem with another militant outfit Lashkar-e-Tayiba.

India also decided to terminate the Samjhauta Express rail link and Lahore-Delhi bus service between the two countries from January one, the spokesperson said.

The government decided to recall High Commissioner Vijay Nambiar from Islamabad 'in view of this complete lack of concern on the part of Pakistan and its continued promotion of cross border terrorism in India', she added.

The day after the attack, Foreign Secretary Chokila Iyer had summoned Pakistan High Commissioner to India Ashraf Jehangir Qazi and issued a verbal demarche asking Islamabad to arrest the leadership of both the terrorist organisations, clamp a ban and freeze their accounts.
