DSP, militant killed in encounter
in Tripura

A senior police official and a suspected insurgent of the banned All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) were killed and a cop injured in an encounter at Ghagracherra in West Tripura district on Saturday, Director General of Police B L Bhora said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoranjan Debbarma was killed and a cop injured when a joint team of the Tripura State Rifles and state police, led by the DSP, was attacked by a team of suspected ATTF insurgents early on Saturday, he said.

The team, on a tip off, had gone to flush out militants from Ghagracherra village on Friday night when it was fired upon, Bhora said.

An insurgent was killed in the ensuing encounter.

Debbarma had received President's police medal last year and was adjudged as policeman of the year in Tripura by the state police department, he added.
