Ignoring the understanding reached at the Agra summit, Pakistan on Monday said that President Pervez Musharraf would "certainly" raise the Kashmir issue in his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 24, a day before his meeting with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New York.
Press secretary to Musharraf and Pakistan's defence spokesman Major General Rashid Qureshi said that the president would certainly raise issues of national and international importance, including Kashmir, in his address to the General Assembly.
Qureshi's assertions left no doubt about Pakistan's plans to queer the pitch once again on the Kashmir issue.
India on Monday reacted strongly to Pakistan Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar raking up the Kashmir issue at the United Nations Conference Against Racism in Durban, charging Islamabad with violating the understanding reached at the Agra summit.
According to officials, the Indian and Pakistani leaders would be meeting at a New York hotel on September 25, perhaps after Vajpayee's address to the General Assembly.
Qureshi said that Pakistan wanted to resolve the core issue of Kashmir through peaceful dialogue so that the peace process initiated at the Agra summit could be carried forward in a positive and constructive spirit.
