An estimated Rs 80 million were recovered from five lockers belonging to some close relatives of arrested chairman of Punjab Public Service Commission Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu on Friday.
Sidhu was arrested on March 26 while allegedly accepting Rs 500,000 from a candidate for a post in the Punjab Civil Service.
Over Rs 10 million have already been seized from the residence of one of his alleged associates, while another Rs 40 million were found in bank accounts belonging to his close relatives.
A former journalist, Sidhu was on Friday remanded to judicial custody till May 2 by Special Judge A S Kathuria.
Sidhu has not moved an application for bail, though he has denied all bribery charges levelled against him.
The five lockers in the Sector 8 branch of IndusInd Bank in Chandigarh were opened on Friday on the orders of First Class Judicial Magistrate Kharar Roshan Lal Chohan. The lockers belonged to Sidhu's brother Reetinder Singh, sister-in-law Ajinder Kaur and mother Prithipal Kaur.
The money, mostly in bundles Rs 500 notes, was being counted when this report was filed.
