Tripura has been put on maximum alert in the wake of the killing of 16 non-tribals in West Tripura district and a Republic Day boycott call issued by insurgents, official sources said on Monday.
With the Republic Day drawing closer, all the police stations have been directed to intensify security measures to prevent ultras from perpetrating any more strikes, the sources said.
The 840 km-long Indo-Bangla international border has been sealed and all border outposts put on maximum alert to foil insurgents' attempt to infiltrate into the state, Border Security Forces sources said.
Meanwhile, a massive combing operation is on at Singhicherra village and its adjoining areas to flush out militants belonging to the National Liberation Force of Tripura, who had massacred the non-tribals on Sunday evening.
