President K R Narayanan, Vice-President Krishan Kant and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday led the nation in paying tributes to Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
Narayanan, Kant and Vajpayee placed wreaths on Balayogi's body, which was kept at Parliament House draped in the tricolour.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sonia Gandhi, Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, former PMs Chandrasekhar, I K Gujral, P V Narasimha Rao and V P Singh, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker P M Sayeed and Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Najma Heptullah also paid their last respects to the departed soul.
Former president R Venkataraman, former Lok Sabha speakers Shivraj Patil and Balram Jakhar, Union ministers Pramod Mahajan, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Shourie, Murasoli Maran, Jagmohan, Sharad Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Uma Bharti, Ram Naik and Venkaiah Naidu also went to Parliament House to pay their last respects to Balayogi.
