Bangladesh High Commissioner Tufail Haider would soon be calling on External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha to discuss the standoff arising out of that country's attempt to push people into India.
Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Wednesday told reporters in Kolkata he hoped Bangladesh would co-operate in defusing the tension along the border in West Bengal.
The Union home minister spent 25 minutes with West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya at the airport on his return from Singapore, before flying off to Delhi.
"The illegal Bangladeshi migrants have no right to stay in India and the whole world knows about the illegal migration problem we face," Advani said.
"No other country faces problems of illegal immigration of this magnitude."
Advani said the problem was particularly severe in West Bengal though most Indian states are unwillingly hosting illegal migrants.
He said the chief secretaries and police chiefs of all the states had recently met in Delhi and resolved to fight illegal immigration.
