The Bharatiya Janata Party will fight the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Delhi -- where the Congress is in power -- on the poll planks of Ayodhya, the common civil code and Article 370 of the Constitution, party spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Monday.
This was decided at a meeting in which Kailash Joshi, Rama Singh, Vasundhararaje Scindia and Madan Lal Khurana, BJP chiefs in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Delhi respectively, were present.
The BJP's five national general secretaries were also present along with party president M Venkaiah Naidu and Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani.
"There is no question of backing out from the issues of Ramjanambhoomi, the common civil code and Article 370 of the Constitution [which the BJP wants abolished]. The BJP is strong on its ideology and the National Democratic Alliance partners have been apprised that its [the Vajpayee government's] agenda for governance is for the Centre," Naqvi said.
"The BJP regards these three issues as national issues." Naqvi said.
According to him, Advani had told the four BJP state chiefs that the BJP's Hindutva ideology will be applied in their states. Advani also asked them to begin a jan sampark [public contact programme] in this regard, he said.
The BJP will also focus on issues like the corruption, the Congress' 'atrocities on dalits and adivasis' and its alleged ignorance of developmental activities, he said.
"The party chief has urged our activists to highlight the Congress party's failures by the end of February. They said they will do so and also apprised the central leadership about their strategy to win the polls..." he said.
