Musharraf to meet Bush on June 24
May 15, 2003 16:46 IST
Pakistan President Pervez Musharrraf will meet his American counterpart, George W Bush, in Washington next month to discuss a host of issues, including the latest Indo-Pak peace overtures and the situation in neighbouring Afghanistan.
Musharraf will travel to Washington in the third week of June at the invitation of Bush. He will meet the US president at the White House on June 24, local daily Dawn quoted officials as saying.
The ground for Musharraf's visit is being prepared by Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Muhammed Kasuri, who is currently touring the United States.
Chief of Pakistan's ISI, Lt Gen Ehsanul Haq, who concluded his US visit last week, had received mixed reception from the top US officials.
While warmly complimenting Pakistan's role in the war against terrorism, Gen Haq was told in no uncertain terms that his intelligence agency must stop training militants and pushing them across the Line of Control into Jammu and Kashmir, another Pakistan newspaper Daily Times reported.
Gen Haq, who visited the US at the invitation of CIA Director George Tenet, was also shown evidence of continuing facilitation by Pakistan and its agencies of armed militants across the LoC in Kashmir.
