Karnataka cop tries to blow up MLA hostel

November 12, 2003 08:05 IST

A Karnataka policeman allegedly planted crude bombs in the Legislators' Home in Bangalore to protest against corruption, for which be blamed politicians.

Police claim Sub-Inspector Girish Loknath Mattanavar planted the bombs on November 1, the state's formation day (Rajyothsava).

He was arrested on November 3 after a tip-off from a telephone booth owner, who had identified the vehicle used by Mattanavar. He has since been suspended and detained.

On Tuesday, a Bangalore court extended his police custody by a day till Wednesday to aid the investigation.

Meanwhile, the police picked up two persons hailing from Jewargi in Gulbarga district for allegedly abetting the crime.

Viresh Babu, a quarry worker, and Guranna, a jeep driver, were produced before a magistrate who remanded them to judicial custody.
