Buzzted! Big B's house a mosquito haven
September 11, 2003 17:45 IST
If one believes the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Union Law and Commerce Minister Arun Jaitley have a hand in increasing the population of mosquitoes.
In its drive to check dengue and malaria in the national capital, the MCD has issued challans to Bachchan and Jaitley on finding their premises a breeding ground for mosquito larvae.
"While challan has been issued to Bachchan for his premises in south Delhi's Gulmohar Park area, Jaitley has been challaned for his New Friend's colony house," MCD's Deputy Health Officer (south) B K Hazarika told PTI on Thursday.
"A date has been fixed for their appearance before the corporation magistrate," he added.
This is part of an MCD drive to prevent the spread of dengue and malaria in which 15,541 notices have been issued this year resulting in 5,114 prosecutions, Deputy Municipal Health Officer N K Yadav said.
Hazarika said the weather at this time of the year is favourable for the mosquitoes to breed, but lamented that people are not cooperating with the corporation.
Other high-profile recipients of the notice include the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), various Supreme Court lawyers, Delhi Public School (East of Kailash) and various bank premises, Hazarika said.
