An Indian warship met with an accident on Thursday night resulting in major damage to its underwater hull during a regular operational exercise in the Arabian Sea off Mumbai.
None of the personnel on board has been injured, a Defence Ministry spokesman said on Friday.
INS Agray, which is part of the Navy's anti-submarine warfare squadron, met with the accident resulting in flooding of the ship's engine room. The cause of the damage is being ascertained, he said.
Naval ships and aircraft in the vicinity were deployed to assist INS Agray and all personnel on board were safely evacuated. A board of inquiry has been constituted to investigate the circumstances leading to the accident.
Naval ships have been conducting a major but routine exercise in the Arabian Sea for the past three days. It is held in February and March every each.
