Sonia, Pawar speak; tie-up likely
January 14, 2004 13:37 IST
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday had a brief phone conversation with Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar ahead of his party's crucial national executive meeting in New Delhi to decide strategy for the Lok Sabha polls.
Pawar invited Gandhi for tea to discuss the political situation in the country and other matters, Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said, adding the two would meet soon.
Sources said the meeting could take place in the evening itself.
The development came a week after Gandhi said she would talk to the NCP leader as part of her exercise to form a secular front to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The NCP is already a coalition partner in the Congress-led Maharashtra government.
