Four killed, 35 hurt in grenade attack

March 10, 2004 14:24 IST

At least four persons, including a militant, were killed and 35 others injured when militants detonated a grenade in a bid to escape after making an abortive attempt to abduct a contractor from his house in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said on Wednesday.

A group of militants barged into the house of a contractor, Ghulam Hassan, at Wadwan around 9.25 pm last night and tried to abduct him.

The inmates of the house raised an alarm and neighbours gathered and tried to overpower the terrorists, the police said.

Finding themselves trapped, one of the militants exploded a grenade resulting in on the spot death of four persons, including one of the ultras and injuries to 35 others, the police said. The other militants managed to escape.

All the injured have been admitted in a hospital, the police added.
