Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy has reiterated that the Congress government would implement the five percent reservations for Muslims in education and employment by the end of June.

On Saturday night, addressing a massive rally in Hyderabad to mark the completion of one year of Congress rule in the state, Dr Reddy also announced a new scheme, Rajiv Abhyudaya Yojana, to assist one million backward class families over the next four years with an outlay of Rs 1,300 crore.

The chief minister said the state government had issued a government order earmarking five per cent reservations for Muslims in public employment and professional courses through their inclusion in the list of backward classes in July last year, but the decision could not be implemented due to litigation.

He said that the government had reconstituted the BC commission within two months of the court verdict and the commission was on the job and it would submit its report within the six-month deadline set by the court.

"I have full confidence that our government will be able to implement the quota for Muslims from June this year," he added.
