Racing against time to crack the Delhi serial blasts case, police on Wednesday issued sketches of a man suspected to have planted the bomb. It was concealed in a bag in a bus and exploded after the alert driver and conductor threw it out.
The three identikits showed the man, aged about 21, with a beard, a thick moustache and a thin moustache. He was described as about five feet five inches tall, thinly-built and wearing a baseball cap with the words 'New York' inscribed on it. He also had a bandage on his left hand.
The sketches had been prepared on the basis of descriptions given by the Delhi Transport Corporation bus passengers, who had a narrow escape on Saturday, when two other explosions in Paharganj and Sarojini Nagar killed 59 people and injured over 200 others.
Most of the inputs had been given by a man to whom the militant had handed over the bag before alighting from the bus. Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh said the sketch showing the man with a beard was '80 percent accurate'.
He said information had started coming in as soon as the sketches were released and were being verified. No identikit had been prepared of suspects who triggered the other blasts as no eye-witnesses had come forward, he told reporters.
