Brain fever toll in eastern Uttar Pradesh 995

The Japanese Encephalitis toll in east Uttar Pradesh on Monday reached 995 with the death of eight more patients in the last 24 hours.

Talking to UNI, Additional Director (Health) C B M Tripathi said 4,312 JE patients had so far been registered at various government hospitals in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions comprising seven east-UP districts.

Meanwhile, 21 fresh JE cases were reported in the region, while a total of 138 patients are still undergoing treatment.

UP brain fever: A case of government apathy?

Patients from Maharajganj, Deoria, Sant Kabirnagar, Ghazipur, Mau, Azamgarh, Basti, Bahriach, Siddharthnagar and Kushinagar, Allahabad, Ambedkarnagar, Balrampur, Ghazipur and Ballia districts have been flocking to various government hospitals since the menace was first reported almost three months back.

Patients have also been trickling from Nepal and Bihar.
