Accusing the Congress of entering into an understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the coming local body polls in Kerala [Images], the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thrusday said the party had made a 'mockery' of the national commitment to fight communalism by taking such a step.
"In order to capture the local bodies in Kerala which are going to polls on September 24, the ruling United Democratic Front has not hesitated to enter into an understanding with the BJP at many places," CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat said in Kolkata in a statement.
Karat charged the UDF government with pursuing 'anti-people policies' during its four-year rule in Kerala, creating an agrarian crisis that affected the lives of lakhs of peasants and agricultural workers.
Appealing to the people to support the Left Democratic Front candidates in the forthcoming local bodies poll, Karat said voting for LDF would be a verdict against the 'anti-people policies of the Oomen Chandy government.'
