Visitors will be banned from entering Goa [Images] Airport from December 24 to January 2 in the wake of a security alert as well as an expected rush of passengers during the period, official said.

The Airport Authority of India has decided to ban visitors and also take adequate precautions considering the possible security threat in the state.

"We want to be more cautious because of a general alert in the state. Also during New Year week, there is huge rush of passengers. We want to clear off the rush by keeping visitors away," Goa Airport Director Paul Manickam told PTI.

He said that the AAI wants to ensure maximum protection and comfort to passengers by keeping away visitors.

"The entire airport area is under strict surveillance by Central Industrial Security Force and local police," Manickam said.

The AAI has also decided to shift the parking from near terminal building to outside the airport premises.
