A West Bengal court on Thursday directed that Mamata Banerjee be produced before it on January 7 in a criminal case.

The Trinamool Congress chief said she will not surrender and alleged that she has been implicated in a fabricated case.

The North 24 Pargana district court issued a non-bailable warrant against Banerjee and five others in connection with a violent incident in 1994 during a rally by Banerjee-led Youth Congress (when she was in Congress) in which two persons were killed in police firing.

When Banerjee and others failed to appear before the court on December 7, the judge directed they be produced before him on January 7.

Banerjee, now on a political visit to North Bengal, however, refused to surrender in the court.

At least 202 accused in the case had earlier surrendered and obtained bail in the matter. Charges under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 25/27A of Arms Act were filed against Mamata Banerjee.

The charge-sheet in the case was filed long back by the police.
