The principal of Khumpui Academy, an English medium school at Khumulawn, the headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, was suspended from service with immediate effect following his alleged nexus with underground militants in the state.

According to official sources on Thursday, Principal Hebal Koloi, also chairman of the Borok Human Rights Organisation, a tribal organisation, was arrested on October 27 after an attack on the Tripura State Rifles jawans the previous day at Sindhukumar Para in Dhalai district by the banned NLFT militants.

Two TSR jawans were killed in the ambush.

His suspension was executed by the TTAADC authorities for his alleged involvement in the attack and nexus with the militants as there was sufficient proof with the police.

Police conducted raids in many areas of this capital city and seized his bank account, passport and other valuable documents.

The accused informed the police that on many occassions he had visited Geneva, London [Images] and Paris. The reason behind his visit to the European countries could not be known immediately.

Meanwhile, the Asom Manabadhikar Sangram Samiti condemned the arrest of Koloi and demanded his immediate release.
