Controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen, who was virtually hounded out of Kolkata on Thursday, said that she is mentally distressed and unwell.

"I am mentally distressed. I am not well at all," Nasreen told PTI in a telephonic conversation.

Asked where she was at present after leaving Jaipur early on Friday morning, Nasreen said "I am not in a position to talk. I am shattered".

However, the Bangladesh writer said that she still believed that Kolkata is a secular and democratic place.

Nasreen left for Delhi by road on Friday after an overnight stay in Jaipur following security concerns.

The Bangladeshi writer was secretly moved out of Kolkata on Thursday and taken to Jaipur after violent protests by the All India Minority Forum on Wednesday demanding the cancellation of her visa.
