Raman Singh, who led the Bharatiya Janata Party to power for a second time in Chhattisgarh, was on Wednesday elected the leader of the BJP legislative party.

Singh will be sworn-in on December 12 at the police parade ground in Raipur.

"The BJP legislators have unanimously elected Raman Singh as their leader to head the government in the state," Ravi Shankar Prasad, party election in-charge said after a three-hour meeting at the party headquarters.

Revenue Minister Brijmohan Agrawal, Home Minister Ramvichar Netam and Health Minister Amar Agrawal proposed the name, which was supported by all others. All newly elected legislators were present at the meeting.

After the meeting, Singh drove to the Raj Bhawan to submit the letter of support to the governor. Party state in-charge Dharmendra [Images] Pradhan and Prasad were the observers from the central leadership.

The BJP retained the state by winning 50 seats in the 90-member assembly.
