Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, a senior vice president of the Bhartiya Janata Party, has accused the United Progressive Alliance government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh [Images] of adopting soft policy towards terrorists.

He was speaking to rediff.com minutes after terrorists struck in Jaipur on Tuesday evening. "We have all along maintained that the present government has been adopting soft policy towards the terrorists. We enacted the Prevention of Terrorist Activities Act to fight terror, but they removed the law once they came to power," Naqvi said.

Top officials of the Union home ministry are now in a meeting to take stock of the situation.

A top Intelligence Bureau official admitted that the terrorists are out to destroy peace between India and Pakistan. "I would not say that they are attacking just India but they are trying to discredit the democratically elected government of Pakistan," he said.
