Curfew clamped on Mahendraganj
An indefinite curfew has been imposed on
Meghalaya's Mahendraganj in west Garo hills district since Saturday midnight, following violent clashes over Durga puja immersion.
Officials say while one person was killed, 15 others were injured in the clash.
The locals, however, claim that over 100 people
were injured. The mob also set fire to 20 houses.
More than 30 have arrested in this connection so far. Paramilitary forces have been deployed in the area.
Clashes erupted when an immersion procession
was passing through a place of worship in a village
near Mahendraganj.
The situation, officials claim, though tense is 'under control.'
