Play of the day: Dad done good!

When it comes to rating the best play in the India versus Argentina match, it has to be a toss up between the two field goals, scored by Mukesh Kumar and Sameer Dad.

And in terms of sheer beauty, Dad's goal in the 60th minute surpassed anything seen not just in this game, but in the Olympics hockey competition to date.

Noteworthy, was the economy of movement on Dad's part after he got Baljit Dillon's measured diagonal cross at the top of the circle.

No fancy stuff, no showing off -- all he did was provide direction to the ball, with the result that it rocketed into the boards before the goalkeeper even realised there was a threat. The goalkeeper was a lifetime too late to spot the sudden change of flanks.

In terms of impact on the course of the match, though, Mukesh Kumar's goal 40 seconds before the interval had no peers. Again, it was engineered by Dhillon, who burst through the defence and sent a firm cross to Mukesh inside the striking circle. Mukesh, having ambled across to the left, played his part to perfection, sounding the boards with a no-nonsense shot.

The vote: Overall impact: Mukesh Kumar gets nine out of ten. Beauty and execution: 10 on 10 to Sameer Dad.
