Mustafa Ghouse toppled by qualifier

Davis Cupper Vishal Uppal held his nerve to edge past Yew Ming-Si into the second round while fifth seed Mustafa Ghouse was upset by a qualifier in the third leg of the ITF men's Satellite tennis tournament on Tuesday.
Uppal, who won the Asian Games doubles bronze in Busan last year, defeated Malysian Si 7-5, 7-6 (7/2) but his medal winning partner Ghouse suffered a heart-wrenching 6-7 (6/8), 6-7 (4/7) loss to Brian Hung of Hong Kong in the first round.
Qualifier Kedar Tembe did a creditable job, defeating former National Games champion Ajay Ramaswami 6-4, 6-0.
The efforts of another qualifier, Manoj Mahadeven, however, came to a naught as he lost 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 to second seed Daniel Kiernan of Great Britain.
Top seed Prakash Amritraj literally walked his way to victory after Punna Vishal retired midway, with the winner of second leg leading 6-4, 3-0.
Vijay Kannan, the third seed, too had it easy, defeating wild card Chatwinder Singh 6-1, 6-3 while sixth seed Vinod Sridhar accounted for the another wild card, Stephen Amritraj 6-0, 6-2.
