Taj Malabar Hotel

Willingdon
Island, tel # 0484-666811,668010: The most atmospheric and luxurious
hotel of Cochin. The main reason for staying here is the wonderful
view of Cochin that it commands. The hotel, strategically located,

to the harbour. Opt for a corner room at least a few floors up
that has both views, though they are more expensive. Room tariffs
run as high as $105 a night.
Taj

makes its location not particularly charming. Utsav, the Residency's
Indian restaurant, serves Tandoori and South Indian cuisine. Harbour
Bar

Bolghatty Palace Hotel, Bolghatty Island, tel # 0484-355003:
In a rather dilapidated condition, this hotel -- which was once
a palace -- is run by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation.
Set on the Bolghatty Island and surrounded by acres of gardens
the place has an interesting colonial aura to it. Although the
hotel is not managed very efficiently, Bolghatty is still an
interesting
and extremely reasonable place to stay. Rooms run to anywhere
from Rs 300 to 650 a night. The harbour-view cottages have a slightly
higher tariff. It is advisable to check out your room before taking
it; some don't have windows though the vistas are superb! Ferries
link the island with Fort Cochin. At the moment the hotel is
undergoing renovation that should be complete by December 1999 and some
of the rooms are closed.
